... And Then There Were Three ... ( English for "... and there were three ...") from 1978 is the ninth studio album by the British rock band Genesis . The title refers to the fact that after the departure of Peter Gabriel in 1975 and Steve Hackett in 1977, the band now only had three members: In addition to Phil Collins , only the founding members Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks were part of the regular line-up, who only added additional musicians at concerts has been. It was the first album in this triple line-up, which turned out to be the most enduring constellation of the band.
The title is a quote from the English version of the children's song Ten Little Negroes .
background
Similar to the departure of Peter Gabriel, after the departure of Steve Hackett, no outside substitute was brought on board, but bassist Mike Rutherford took over the role of lead guitarist in the band from now on. When performing live, Daryl Stuermer was usually hired as a guest musician for this role .
On the album, compared to earlier records, progressive and experimental moments took a back seat in favor of commercial rock / pop music. Still, the album marks an important point in the overall view of the band. In addition to the commercial success of the album, the track Follow You Follow Me became a worldwide hit.
