Anderson Packers (also known as Anderson Duffey Packers and Chief Anderson Meat Packers ) was the name of an American basketball franchise based in Anderson , Indiana , in the 1940s and 1950s.

history

The team was founded by the brothers Ike W. and John B. Duffey. The Duffey brothers were the founders of the meat packing company Duffey's Incorporated , which had bought the Hughes-Curry Packing Co. of Anderson in 1946 . It was around this time that the brothers founded the Anderson Packers. Although the Duffeys sold their meat packing company three years later, they continued to own the Anderson Packers until the end of the franchise history.

The Packers played in the National Basketball League (NBL) from 1946 to 1949. After that, the team moved to the National Basketball Association (NBA). In the NBA they only played in the 1949-50 season and achieved a statistic of 37 wins and 27 losses. On April 11, 1950, the team withdrew from the NBA and moved to the National Professional Basketball League (NPBL). After the end of the 1950–51 season, the team broke up.
