history

After the Indianapolis Jets disbanded in 1949 , they were replaced by the Olympians. Alex Groza and Ralph Beard of the University of Kentucky were signed, two players on the team that won gold with the US team at the 1948 Olympics . Wallace Jones and Cliff Barker also joined the team.

The first season of the Olympians ended after a first place in the Western Division of the NBA and a first-round win against the Sheboygan Red Skins in the Western Division Finals, where they lost to the Anderson Packers . In the following season they reached fourth place in the Western Division, but were beaten in the first round by the Minneapolis Lakers .

After that season, Alex Groza and Ralph Beard were suspended for doing so-called "point shaving" (match-fixing) in their college days. The next two seasons each ended with an elimination in the first round against the Minneapolis Lakers. After this season, the Olympians stopped playing and then disbanded.

On January 6, 1951, the team defeated the Rochester Royals after six extensions with 75:73. To date, this represents the longest NBA game in league history.
