The Andreas Gayk is a former excursion and butter ship of the Kieler Verkehrs AG . Until 2016 it was an unused and not public museum ship in Eckernförde .

history

The Andreas Gayk was built in 1970 under construction number 1280 at the Husum shipyard . The launch took place on April 21, 1970. The ship was delivered to the then Kieler Verkehrs AG on June 2, 1970 and used for butter trips from Kiel to Denmark .

The ship, which is a sister ship on the Baltic Sea of the Flensburg Fjord shipping company , was named after Kiel's Lord Mayor Andreas Gayk .

It was used as the official regatta escort ship during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Kiel .

From 1976, the ship was chartered out several times, at times to Heiligenhafen under the name of City Councilor Steingräber , and finally sold in 1982 and renamed Sunshine . The ship, which had been registered in Eckernförde since 1983, was used as Sunshine for butter cruises between Eckernförde and Sønderborg . In 1985 it was sold again and was used as Rümm Hart I for butter transport between Heiligenhafen and Rødby .

The ship had been registered in Ueckermünde since 1999 and was now used between Ueckermünde and the Polish ports of Trzebież (Ziegenort) and Świnoujście (Swinemünde). End of April 2004, it was first in Ueckermünde launched and back on the October of the year Flensburg Fjord used.

In 2005 and 2006 the ship was used from time to time from the Danish town of Gråsten . Since the end of March 2006 it has been laid up in various ports. From 2007 to 2010 it was in Arnis . There it was made ready to drive at the Heinrich Eberhardt shipyard . The transfer from Arnis via Kappeln to Eckernförde with the ANTON tug from the Kappelner Wasserbauirma Ostseedienst began on May 20, 2011. The destination was Port Olpenitz , as there was no access permit for Eckernförde at that time.

Technical specifications

The ship is powered by two diesel engines from the manufacturer Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG of the type 12M716 with an output of 824  kW , which act on two propellers. It can reach a speed of up to 14  knots .

Butter Ship Museum

In 2010 the ship was acquired by Rieke Boomgaarden and Wolfgang Beyer, who want to keep it as a museum ship and turn it into a floating museum as part of the “Eckernförde adventure harbor”. The history of the butter journeys in the western Baltic Sea is to be documented on board the Butter Ship Museum.

After initial difficulties and the lack of consent from Stadtwerke Eckernförde as the port operator to provide the ship with a berth in Eckernförde, the ship has been in Eckernförde since the end of December 2011. Here it was to be overhauled and repaired to become a museum ship with accessible engine and bridge. The use as a gastronomy or cabaret was planned as well as short trips by ship on the Eckernförde Bay.

In 2013 a culture salon was opened on the ship .

Future prospects

The Andreas Gayk in the port of Eckernförde

The intended goals were not achieved. The Stadtwerke Eckernförde, responsible for the berth in the port, twice extended the deadline, at the end to August 31, 2014. At that time, the ship was still not roadworthy. With the loss of the berth permit, the bar and restaurant license expired. Independently of this, the owners acquired the former interior of the Ratshalle restaurant in order to build it into the ship.

With an injunction at the Schleswig-Holstein Administrative Court in Schleswig , the owners of the ship obtained a bar and restaurant license from May to October at the beginning of 2015. In May 2016, a settlement was reached before the Kiel Regional Court . The ship must then vacate the berth in Eckernförde by the end of September 2016. In return, the owners are exempted from the accrued berth costs of 22,500 euros. If the berth is not cleared, the municipal utilities could arrange for it to be towed, possibly also for scrapping.

On October 1, 2016, the ship was towed out of the port of Eckernförde as agreed, but with an unknown destination. A few days later the visual report came that the ship was lying in Marstal on the southeastern tip of the Danish island of Ærø at the shipyard pier.
