Anthony De Longis

Anthony Charles De Longis (born March 23, 1950 in Glendale , California ) is an American - Canadian actor , stunt performer and choreographer .

Life

De Longis grew up in London , Ontario, Canada.

He completed an acting education at California State University in Northridge , which he graduated with an acting diploma. De Longis gained his first stage experience as an actor and fencing trainer at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Stratford , Ontario.

After a single film appearance in 1969, he has been seen regularly on television and in cinema productions since 1976. In 1985 he appeared in the soap opera Zeit der Sehnsucht as Claus Van Zandt and in 1989 as Leo Mitchell in California Clan . He has also made guest appearances on numerous other television series, including Battlestar Galactica , V - The Extraterrestrial Visitors Are Coming , Babylon 5 , Queen of Swords and MacGyver . In the series Queen of Swords he also worked as a stunt coordinator and sword master. De Longis also took on a speaking role in the Star Trek computer game Star Trek: Judgment Rites .

His best-known film role was as Blade in Masters of the Universe from 1987, where he was also Frank Langella's stunt double . De Longis is also known for his recurring role during the first two seasons of Star Trek: Voyager as First Maje Jal Culluh, leader of the Kazon-Nistrim.

In the 1990s he had roles in Highlander , in 1994 as Lymon Kurlow in the third season (episode: Blackmail ) and 1997 as Octavio Consone in the fifth season (episode: Duende ). As a martial artist and weapon master in several disciplines, he played a swordsman at Jet Li's side in the 2006 martial arts film Fearless . He gave Harrison Ford extensive whip-handling training for Indiana Jones and the 2008 Kingdom of the Crystal Skull . He also taught Michelle Pfeiffer how to use the bull whip for her role as Catwoman . He also taught Tessie Santiago how to use the sword and whip for her role as Queen of Swords.

De Longis has also worked in numerous theater productions since the 1970s. In 1974 he was on stage with Vanessa Redgrave and Charlton Heston in Los Angeles in Macbeth . From 1983 to 1984 he played in a stage version of Rashomon at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego . In 1999 he took over Count Zescu in the play A Vampire Reflects by Frank Semerano at the Ventura Court Theater in Studio City . Several theater productions followed in Los Angeles . At the Ahmanson Theater he played the Vicomte de Valvert in Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand alongside Richard Chamberlain .

De Longis also took on numerous other roles in the plays of William Shakespeare . At the Old Globe Theater in San Diego, for example, he played Prince John of Lancaster in Henry IV , Edgar in King Lear , Magnifico in The Merchant of Venice , Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet and Valentin in Was ihr wollt . At the Globe Playhouse in Los Angeles, he played Iago in Othello . At Theater 40 in Los Angeles he appeared as Güldenstern in Hamlet and as Vincentio in Maß für Maß . At the John Anson Ford Theater in Hollywood , he played Count Paris in Romeo and Juliet . He was also at Theater 40 as Güldenstern in Tom Stoppard's absurd tragic comedy Rosenkrantz and Güldenstern are dead .

In some of these productions, De Longis took over the choreography for the fight and fencing scenes at the same time. He also choreographed the fight scenes in other theater productions in Los Angeles. He also created the choreographies for several opera productions for the Los Angeles Opera at the Los Angeles Music Center. Since 1985 he has been responsible for the rehearsal of all fencing and fighting scenes at Los Angeles Opera as Fight Director.

De Longis has been teaching fencing , stage fighting and movement at the Theater Department of the University of California, Los Angeles for over twenty years .

He writes articles and articles for various magazines and journals, including Fight Master , Inside Karate and Martial Arts Insider .

De Longis is a US citizen and has permanent resident status in Canada. He lives alternately in Los Angeles and in Vancouver .
