Anton August von Below

Anton August von Below (born August 23, 1808 in Königsberg ; † May 25, 1896 there ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Anton comes from the old Mecklenburg - Pomeranian noble family von Below . He was a son of the later Prussian Lieutenant General Theodor von Below (1765–1839) and his wife Friederike, born von der Goltz (1787–1853). His brothers Ferdinand (1812–1870) and Karl Theodor (1818–1897) were also Prussian lieutenants general.

Military career

From 1821 Below first visited the cadet houses in Kulm and later in Berlin . On April 4, 1826, he was a sergeant the 3rd Cuirassiers the Prussian Army transferred. However, he interrupted his active military career and resigned from active service on December 19, 1839 , with the character as prime lieutenant and permission to wear the army uniform. He was accepted into the 1st Battalion of the 4th Landwehr Regiment in August 1842. Three months later he moved to the 2nd Battalion of the 1st Landwehr Regiment.

From 1845 Below was Prime Lieutenant. After living seven years as on leave Landwehr officer on his estate, he went without pay to active duty and became the 3rd Cuirassiers from February 3, 1847 aggregated . In 1848 he became adjutant at the General Command of the I. Army Corps and in 1849 Rittmeister . On March 19, 1850 he was appointed squadron chief in the 3rd cuirassier regiment and on June 1, 1856 as a major under position à la suite of his regiment, he was appointed director of the new Schwedt military riding school . From March 1858 he became a regular staff officer in the 5th Cuirassier Regiment and from 1859 he was commissioned to lead the 8th Cuirassier Regiment . In 1859 he was appointed regimental commander . In July 1860 Below was promoted to lieutenant colonel and in October 1861 to colonel . From April 18, 1865 Below was commander of the 16th Cavalry Brigade in Trier and on June 15, 1866 he was promoted to major general. In 1866, during the war against Austria, he took part in the battles at Münchengrätz and Königgrätz . In October 1866 he became the commander of the newly established 17th Cavalry Brigade in Kiel . On September 19, 1868, Below was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and swords on the ring, for his achievements . He was on 8 May 1869 under ceremony of the character as a lieutenant general board for disposition made.

Below was a legal knight of the Order of St. John .

family

On November 12, 1839 Below zu Sanditten married Bertha Georgine Luise Friederike Countess von Schlieben (born January 20, 1823 in Sanditten; † November 11, 1900 in Breslau ). The marriage had seven children:

  • Luise Bertha (born September 17, 1842; † July 16, 1920) ⚭ 1871 Willibald Becks († October 13, 1893), sea captain
