The WEB Arena ( Russian ВЭБ Арена ), previously Arena CSKA ( Russian Арена ЦСКА ) is a football stadium in the Russian capital Moscow . It is the stadium of the PFK ZSKA Moscow football club , which was completed in 2016 . The new building was built in the northern administrative district of the city on the site of the Grigori Fedotov Stadium , which was inaugurated in 1961 and where CSKA played from 1974 to 2000.

architecture

The designs for the new building date from 2006. They were inspired by the 2005 UEFA Cup won by the CSKA, which was the first Russian title to be won in a European football competition. The most distinctive feature of the design was a glazed high-rise in the shape of the UEFA Cup trophy in the south-west corner of the soccer arena. The skyscraper is 142 meters high and offers around 20,000 m 2 of space on 38 floors . In the corners to the south-east and north-west there are office buildings with an area of 7,500 m 2 each . The northeast corner houses a hotel with 48 rooms. The office buildings like the hotel also have a large glass facade .

The four grandstand roofs are not arranged horizontally, but slope down from the northwest and southeast corners to the opposite corners of the stadium. They are also slightly twisted in themselves. The plastic seats on the two-story tiers are in the club colors red, blue and yellow. The name of the PFC ZSKA association is shown with yellow seats on one of the longitudinal stands. Under the roof in the northwest and the southeast corner, the two were video - display panel mounted. The four lower tiers offer around 12,500 seats and the upper parts of the grandstand have around 14,500 seats. In between are 106 VIP - boxes with space for 12 to 18 people. The usable area in the stadium is 174,100 m 2 . There are a total of 1,400 parking spaces in and around the football stadium.

The stadium complex also includes a children's and youth sports school, a club museum, a fan shop , restaurants , cafes and a medical center.

history

After the demolition of the old stadium in 2006, the foundation stone was laid in a solemn ceremony on May 19, 2007 . The construction work had to be interrupted several times. One of the reasons was financial bottlenecks at CSKA Moscow. The longest break lasted 16 months in the period from 2009 to 2011. Originally, a completion date was assumed in 2009, but it was initially moved to May 2010. After a long construction freeze, the ZSKA arena should be available in summer 2013, but another date in spring 2015 could not be held. In December 2015 the game for the Russian Soccer Supercup 2016 was awarded in the new CSKA stadium. The summer of 2016 was calculated as the final construction completion. In February 2016, the construction costs, after initially planned 100 million US dollars , amounted to 330 to 340 million US dollars.

Since it became clear in June 2016 that the soccer arena would not be ready for the date of 23 July 2016, the match between champions CSKA Moscow and cup winners Zenit Saint Petersburg was moved to the Lokomotiv Stadium . The first home game of the Premjer League 2016/17 on August 5 against newly promoted FK Orenburg had to be played in the Chimki arena . During a tour of the football arena at the end of July 2016, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Policy and Construction, Marat Khusnullin, announced that construction was completed. After the new building has been cleared, the first events should be able to take place at the end of August. The club received permission to operate the stadium in August 2016. The final cost of building the stadium was $ 350 million.

On September 4, 2016, CSKA faced city rivals Torpedo Moscow in a friendly match in the empty stadium . The encounter, without the national players who were absent due to international matches, won the home team 3-0. The opening game was played on September 10th between CSKA and Terek Grozny . The league game took place in front of 26,420 spectators and saw a 3-0 victory for CSKA. The first competitive goal at the Arena scored the Ivorian Lacina Traoré . The international premiere of the ZSKA arena took place on September 27, 2016. The English soccer club Tottenham Hotspur played their first home game in Group E of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League .

On February 28, 2017, PFK ZSKA announced the conclusion of a sponsorship contract with Wneschekonombank on its website . The arena ZSKA has since been called WEB Arena .

Transport links

There are three metro stations of the Moscow Metro near the stadium . The Sokol and Aeroport stations are on the Samoskvorezkaya line . Metro Station Poleschajewskaja is part of tagansko-krasnopresnenskaya line . Passenger transport began on September 10, 2016 with 24 stations on the small Moscow railway ring. The remaining seven stations were operational from September to November 2016. This includes the Sorge station near the WEB Arena . The closest airport to the city is Sheremetyevo Airport , which is around 25 to 30 km north of the stadium, depending on the route.
