Arvīds Reķis (born January 1, 1979 in Jūrmala , Latvian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Latvian ice hockey player with German nationality, who for many years with the Augsburger Panthers and the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg in the German Ice Hockey League and for Dinamo Riga in the continental Hockey league was active.

Career

Reķis began his career in 1995 in the US Junior League United States Hockey League , before moving to the Erie Otters in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League for the 1996/97 season. The native Latvian was under contract there for a total of four years and was one of the defenders with the best points within the team. He scored 146 scorer points in 259 completed games. After a brief engagement with the Indianapolis Ice in the Central Hockey League , which lasted only a few weeks, Arvīds Reķis joined the Peoria Rivermen in the summer of 2000 , the then farm team of the Worcester IceCats from the American Hockey League and the St. Louis Blues from the National Hockey League , with which he was henceforth active in the East Coast Hockey League .

Since he never got the chance to prove himself in the NHL and also only wore the jersey of the Worcester IceCats 18 times in the AHL, the left-shooter moved to Europe for the 2003/04 season . There he was signed by those responsible for the Augsburg Panthers from the German Ice Hockey League, for which the defender was active until 2008. The 2004/05 season was the only one in which he could reach the play-offs with Augsburg. There, however, the Panthers were eliminated in the first round, the play-off quarter-finals, in a Best of Seven series with 1: 4 defeats against the eventual German champions Eisbären Berlin .

After his contract was not renewed at the end of the 2007/08 season , the defensive player decided on a contract offer with league rivals Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg . There he received a contract that tied him to the club until the summer of 2009.

In April 2010 Reķis was signed by Dinamo Riga .

After a total of 19 years as a professional, 10 years with the Augsburg Panthers and 576 DEL games in which he scored 47 goals and 108 assists, Reķis ended his career in April 2019.

International

For Latvia Reķis took part in the junior division of the U18 junior C1 European championship in 1995 and the U20 junior B world championship in 1999 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the A-World Championships in 2003 , 2004 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2010 and 2011 as well as at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and 2010 in Vancouver .
