Atelier Markgraph is an international design studio for communication in space based in Frankfurt am Main . The focus of the work of Atelier Markgraph is the creation and scenographic design of digital-analog spatial experiences for the appearance of companies, museums and cultural institutions.

In 2003, the cultural journalist Conway Lloyd Morgan published a book on 57 of the agency's projects.

Shareholder

Atelier Markgraph GmbH was founded in 1986 by Roland Lambrette, Rolf Engel and Meinhard Hutschenreuther in Frankfurt am Main. Stefan Weil and Lars Uwe Bleher have been the owners since 2017 and together with Tom Schubert form the management team.

Starts with video installations and staging live concert events

The beginnings of the studio were shaped by experimental video installations and the staging of stage shows.

The first successes included u. a. the screening of the Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense in 1986 in Frankfurt am Main, the implementation of The Wall concert by Pink Floyd in 1990 at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin , as well as the conception and stage design for the singer Peter's Secret World Tour Gabriel in 1993.

Staging of corporate and brand appearances

A long-term cooperation exists with Daimler AG , u. a. Atelier Markgraph has been designing the appearance of the Mercedes-Benz brand at the International Motor Show (IAA) since 1993 . From 2009 to 2011 Atelier Markgraph was responsible for the interior design of the Mercedes-Benz Galleries in Munich, Berlin and Paris. In 2011, the Atelier Markgraph conceived the Mythos 6 exhibition space as part of the Mercedes-Benz World for the Mercedes-Benz Museum under the theme “Departure - the path to emission-free mobility, 1982 to today”.

Other industrial customers include a. the German Telekom , and for the studio Markgraph. a. realized the Product Experience Center at the company's headquarters in Darmstadt in 2008, as well as the WMF Group , whose brand presence at the Ambiente consumer goods fair has been designed by the Atelier since 2015. Atelier Markgraph designed a brand presence for the German heating technology manufacturer Viessmann at the 2017 International Sanitary and Heating Fair , which gave visitors an insight into complex digital systems using augmented reality .

Another business area of ​​Atelier Markgraph is the design of TV studios, including the studio design of the ZDF consumer magazine " WISO " in 2018, the studio set redesign of the ZDF sports formats in 2017 and the redesign of the 3sat television programs nano , Scobel and culture time .

Staging in public space

Media stagings in public space attracted a lot of attention, especially the SkyArena for the opening of the 2006 soccer World Cup , where the skyscrapers on the Frankfurt skyline were used extensively as a projection surface for musical staging.

Furthermore, Atelier Markgraph u. a. responsible for Culture and Communication Project "sound of the squares - 400 years Mannheim" in 2007, and the media production of "light at the end of the tunnel" for the spectacle of Frankfurt for the Luminale 2010. The WORD FUSION project, an art installation at the St. Paul Church for 25 . anniversary of German reunification in 2015, realized the studio Markgraph along with the artist Peter Zizka .

On the occasion of the official opening of the New Frankfurt Old Town in September 2018, Atelier Markgraph staged a drone show over the Main. Under the name "Constellations - A Symphony for Frankfurt Old Town", 110 quadrocopter formed constellations representing famous Frankfurt personalities and events. The light and media staging also contained specially composed music and speaker passages.

Exhibition and museum projects

Atelier Markgraph has helped design numerous museum and exhibition projects at its Frankfurt am Main location. These include u. a. the appearance of the Frankfurt museums at the Museumsuferfest 2003 under the title “Ship of Ideas”, as well as the design of the special exhibition “ Die Kaisermacher ”, which took place simultaneously in four Frankfurt museums in 2007. For the Institute of Urban History in Frankfurt Atelier Markgraph took over the organization of the exhibitions "What moves the world - Arthur Schopenhauer in Frankfurt" (2010) and HOME / FRONT (2013) that the air raids on Frankfurt and the wartime society during the time National Socialism themed. For the Jewish Museum Frankfurt Atelier Markgraph took last the design of the exhibition "Jews. Money. An act.". With the Minischirn, Atelier Markgraph designed a children's department for the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt in 2015 , followed by the staging of the exhibition “Athens - Triumph of Pictures” in the Liebieghaus Frankfurt in 2016 .

In Munich , Atelier Markgraph designed and implemented the redesign of Halls 1 and 2 of the traffic center for the German Museum (2000–2006).

In 2009 Atelier Markgraph in Berlin designed and realized the German Currywurst Museum Berlin .

In Bonn , Atelier Markgraph designed the exhibition “At 17… being young in Germany” in the House of History of the Federal Republic of Germany (2011).

Atelier Markgraph designed the exhibition Ladies Choice! For the Historical Museum Frankfurt . 100 years of women's suffrage , which was part of the nationwide anniversary program in 2018/2019.
