history
Until 1779 the area was Bavarian (then Innbaiern ), and until 1783 (foundation of the diocese of Linz ) it belonged to the diocese of Passau , until 1784 to the parish of Waldzell . Originally, Knirzing (probably an early medieval -ing -name) comprised all localities southwest of Pramet, on both sides of the brook. Pramet and Schildorn were connected by a common parish for a long time, and were only established as two parishes in 1884. However, parts of the village of Rödt , located to the south of the river, gradually moved between them (Hof Rödt No. 8 was called Speck zu Weiteneben ), which came to Pramet when the community was separated.
For the Schildorn part, the name Prüglau (in Upper German: Prügel , 'strong stick' and -au 'wetland'), probably 'meadow landscape, where you can get strong wood' or a Knittelsteig, developed . The name appears as early as 1532 and 1603 (Priglau) .
In the late 2000s, only the village (i.e. the postal addresses) was called Knirzing , but the location (hamlet) was Prüglau . House no. 2 is called Müller in the Grillenau or in the Au .
Since the address reform of the municipality on July 1, 2008, the location has been known as Au , and is counted as one of the 23 new localities.
