Audrey Horne is the third studio album by the Norwegian hard rock band Audrey Horne . It was released on February 26, 2010 by Indie Recordings .

Emergence

The songs for the new album were written in spring and summer 2009. During this time the musicians listened to a lot of classic rock and hard rock from the 1980s, which was reflected in the new songs. In total, the musicians wrote about 30 to 40 songs, of which the ten songs were selected for the album, which in the opinion of the band make "a dynamic, exciting and varied album" possible. The song "Down Like Suicide" used for the album, however, comes from the recordings for the debut album No Hay Banda from 2005.

In the summer of 2009 the band played at various European music festivals before traveling to Pasadena in September 2009 . The recordings took place in the JHOC studios. The album was produced and mixed by Joe Baressi, who has worked with bands such as the Queens of the Stone Age , Bad Religion and Tool and who has already co-produced Audrey Hornes debut album No Hay Banda . The recordings in Pasadena lasted a total of eight days.

"... this time we really wanted to go into the studio as a band and do everything together instead of sending files back and forth."

After returning from the USA , the band initially recorded the bass and keyboards for the album in the Earshot and Conclave Studios in Bergen . Six acoustic songs were also recorded, including covers of Kiss ("Nowhere to Run") and Beyoncé Knowles ("Halo"). Espen Lien (bass), Herbrand Larsen (keyboards) and the singer Heidi Marie Vestrheim appeared as guest musicians . The recordings in Norway were produced by Herbrand Larsen and Arve Isdal .

According to singer Torkjell Rød, the band decided on the band name as the album title to show that the band feels like a really complete band with their third album.

“We went to work very focused and confident. As a result, we found it appropriate to name the album after the band themselves - even if it's of course clichéd. The album should say: 'Hey, that's us!' "

- Torkjell Rød

The album cover was designed by Remi Juliebø. It shows the new band logo in the middle . The logo is surrounded by eleven small images, each of which stands symbolically for one of the songs and relates to the text. There is a connection between the image of the last and the first song.

The lyrics on the album deal with the good times and hard times in life. Singer Torkjell Rød worked a lot with seafarers ' metaphors in his lyrics . In an interview, he stated that he compares life on a ship to life on our planet .

“You cannot leave the ship and have to deal with the people and situations around you. You have to fight the waves and escape the storm to find your way home. That's why I use these pictures to write about life. "

- Torkjell Rød

The album received mostly very good reviews in the trade press. Thorsten Zahn from the German magazine Metal Hammer described Audrey Horne as “modern classic rock of the very best maturity” and predicted that Audrey Horne “will be your new favorite band at the latest after the emotional bout 'Godspeed'”. He gave the album six out of seven points. According to Peter Kubaschk from the online magazine Powermetal.de , Audrey Horne are "making a statement with their third album, defining the band's sound, a milestone". Kubaschk gave Audrey Horne a 9.5 out of ten points. For Götz Kühnemund , the rock-hard editor -in- chief at the time , the album, apart from the song “Circus”, only offers “hits that hard rockers - regardless of whether they are classic or modern - should have heard”. Michael Siegl from the online magazine Metalnews.de, on the other hand, wrote that Audrey Horne “develops a spicy, tasty aroma”, but on the other hand gains the impression that “both“ No Hay Banda ”and above all“ Le Fol ”were a lot stronger”. Siegl gave the album 5.5 out of seven points. Audrey Horne entered the Norwegian album charts at number 13 and was in the charts for a total of four weeks.
