Georg Heinrich August Freiherr von Krafft (born August 21, 1782 in Kraftshagen , † July 27, 1855 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

His grandfather was the Prussian major general August Christian Lebrecht von Krafft . He was a son of August Lebrecht von Krafft (born February 26, 1760; † May 27, 1834) and his wife Katharina Charlotte Sophie, born von Kanitz (born April 19, 1742; † October 10, 1832) widowed von Printz. His father was a Second Lieutenant a. D. , most recently in the infantry regiment “von Kauffberg” , Herr auf Krafftshagen, councilor and legal knight of the Order of St. John . The brother Karl Lebrecht Friedrich (1784-1857) also rose to lieutenant general.

Military career

Krafft joined in 1795 as a cadet in the Regiment of Dragoons "Werther" the Prussian army and was promoted to July 1798 second lieutenant . In the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Preussisch Eylau and was employed on April 27, 1807 in the "Marwitz" Freikorps .

After the Peace of Tilsit , Krafft came to the 1st West Prussian Dragoons Regiment in mid-November 1807 and from there on January 24, 1808, as Prime Lieutenant in the Leib-Hussar Regiment . On September 14, 1808, he was given leave of absence until further notice and on April 1, 1809, he was aggregated into the Brandenburg Hussar Regiment . From March 5, 1811, Krafft was aggregated to the Guard-Uhlan squadron and came on March 29, 1811 as a staff commander to the normal Uhlan squadron. On November 2, 1812 he received the Order of St. John , was promoted to Rittmeister on April 8, 1813 and advanced to Major on July 14, 1813 . During the Wars of Liberation , he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class in the Battle of Bautzen . Krafft fought near Leipzig , Dresden , Brienne , Arcis-sur-Aube , Paris and Borna and Haynau .

Awarded the Knight's Cross of the Leopold Order , Krafft was appointed commander of the Garde-Ulanen-Landwehr Regiment on February 21, 1815 and promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 3, 1815 . On September 19, 1821 he was appointed commander of the Guard Cuirassier Regiment . There he was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1822 with a patent from April 2, 1822 . In 1825 he received the service cross . On September 24, 1830, Krafft was commissioned to lead the 2nd Guard Cavalry Brigade in Berlin. This was followed by his transfer to Stargard on March 30, 1832 , where he was appointed commander of the 4th Cavalry Brigade and aggregated to the Guard Cuirassier Regiment. In this capacity, Krafft advanced to major general on March 30, 1833. At the end of May 1833 he was given a three-month vacation to Bad Ems and Schwalbach on full pay to restore his damaged health . On September 19, 1840, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV awarded him the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. On January 13, 1841, Krafft received his departure with an annual pension of 2250 thalers. After his departure, he was given the character of lieutenant general on January 25, 1841 .

On October 13, 1844, he was given permission to retain the previously used title of baron for himself. He died on July 27, 1855 in Berlin and was buried on August 3, 1855 in Kraftshagen.

family

Krafft married on October 15, 1827 in Dresden Eugenie von Issakow (* February 21, 1803, † February 12, 1859), the daughter of Michael von Issakoff from Dresden. The couple had several children:

  • Alexander August Heinrich Karl Franz (born September 6, 1828 - † September 4, 1865), retired secondary lieutenant. D. On August 14, 1852, he retired from the 1st Leibhusar Regiment, married a Muslim woman, converted to Islam and died under the name of Iskender Bey.
  • Nikolaus Raimundus Eugen (* October 21, 1831 - † December 4, 1832)
