August Gabriel Friedrich Oelrichs , von Oelrichs since 1858 (born March 1, 1801 in Bremen , † March 15, 1868 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

August was the son of the businessman Gabriel Friedrich Oelrichs († 1846) and his wife Margarethe, née Treviranus.

Military career

Oelrichs occurred in 1818 in the Guard Pioneer Division of the Prussian army one, advanced to mid-December 1819 second lieutenant and was aggregation of the 3rd Engineer Brigade for training to the United Artillery and Engineering School in command. Subsequently, Oelrichs had assignments with the 6th Pioneer Department and then again with the Guard Pioneer Department until he was finally aggregated to the 3rd Uhlan Regiment at the end of June 1825 . In 1828 he took a year off to Russia to complete his Russian language skills . In 1830/33 Oelrichs was assigned to the topographical office and from the end of March 1834 to the General Staff . At the end of March 1835 he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant and transferred to the General Staff of the VII Army Corps in Münster in mid-June 1836 . There Oelrichs rose to captain at the end of March 1837 .

In 1838 he took another leave of absence in order to be able to take part in the campaign under Duke de Nemours in Algeria . For this Oelrichs was awarded the Cross of the Legion of Honor.

After his return he was again active in the General Staff in April 1840 and joined the General Staff of the Guard Corps a year later . As a major , Oelrichs accompanied Prince Wilhelm in 1848 on his escape from revolutionary Berlin to London . In the same year he was on the staff of Lieutenant General von Radziwill during the campaign around Schleswig and Holstein . For his behavior with the Red Eagle Order III. Awarded swords in the 1st class, he was aggregated to the General Staff at the end of June 1849 and assigned to the 2nd Guard Uhlan Regiment and three months later to the 1st Guard Uhlan Regiment . On April 18, 1850 he was appointed commander of the 3rd Cuirassier Regiment in Königsberg and in this position he rose to colonel until April 25, 1852 . In recognition of his services , King Friedrich Wilhelm IV raised him to the hereditary Prussian nobility on March 27, 1858 in Berlin .

For the duration of the mobilization on the occasion of the Sardinian War , Oelrichs was in 1859 commander of the 7th Cavalry Division . With effect from October 29, 1859, he was appointed commander of the Mainz Federal Fortress and was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Oak Crown in August of the following year . On October 18, 1861, Wilhelm I's coronation day as King of Prussia , he was promoted to Lieutenant General and in August 1863 he was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown, 1st class. With the award of the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves and Swords on the Ring, Oelrichs was transferred to the army officers on October 29, 1864 and appointed governor of Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein on November 10, 1864 . Grand Duke Ludwig III. honored him in mid-December 1864 by being awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of Philip the Magnanimous . family

Oelrichs had married Louise Braun (1822-1904), daughter of the Prime Minister Johann Karl Friedrich Braun, on October 20, 1841 in Gumbinnen . The daughter Marie (1844–1900) emerged from the marriage and married the Prussian Rittmeister Paul von Bojanowski († 1864) in Mainz on June 1, 1863. After his death, she married Hugo von Saldern-Ahlimb-Ringenwalde on March 26, 1867 in Berlin .
