The motorway junction Fürth / Erlangen (abbreviation: AK Fürth / Erlangen ; short form: Kreuz Fürth / Erlangen ) is a motorway junction in Bavaria , which is located in the metropolitan region of Nuremberg . This is where the A 73 ( Suhl - Nuremberg ) and the Autobahn 3 ( Oberhausen - Frankfurt am Main - Passau ) intersect .
geography
The cross is in the area of the city of Erlangen , near the districts of Eltersdorf and Bruck . The surrounding cities and communities are Nuremberg , Fürth and Herzogenaurach . It is located about 80 km southeast of Würzburg and about 10 km north of Nuremberg city center.
The Fürth / Erlangen motorway junction is number 83 on Autobahn 3 and number 34 on A73.
history
The motorway junction was built in the 1980s as part of the construction of the Frankenschnellweg (A 73) from Bamberg to Nuremberg. The Autobahn 3 has existed in this area since the 1960s.
State of development
The cross has the shape of a classic clover leaf. The Autobahn 3 has four lanes in the area of the cross and to the west. To the east it has six lanes, the A 73 has four lanes. All connection ramps are single-lane.
modification
The motorway junction has been rebuilt since 2016. In order to be able to cope with the future volume of traffic and to reduce noise pollution, the A 3 will be widened from four to six lanes in a cross and will be given a noise-reducing, open-pored asphalt. The connecting ramps between the two autobahns will be renewed and partially widened, and the cross will have a new semi-direct ramp for traffic from Bamberg (A 73) to Nuremberg (A 3). The A 73 will be structurally adapted to the widened A 3 and the new ramp. In addition, a total of 5.7 kilometers of noise protection wall will be built around the cross. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2021.
Traffic volume
Around 160,000 vehicles pass the cross every day.
