Movie

Awesome was filmed ; I Fuckin 'Shot That! mostly from fans. In the run-up to the concert, the Beastie Boys asked ticket holders to apply for this job on their website. From those interested, they then selected the 50 who, taken together, offered the most diverse perspectives possible in the sold-out Madison Square Garden . These fans were then equipped with Hi8 cameras and received a brief briefing before the concert began, which essentially went as follows: “There is only one rule - you can rock out, do what you want - just film. If you don't look, it doesn't matter; but when the lights go out, you press the magical red button. ”True to this announcement, the fans not only documented what was happening on the stage and in the auditorium, but also what was happening at the drinks stands and in the toilet cubicles. The pictures are mostly very blurred and a little blurry, sometimes they also contain the date and time of the automatic camera. The recordings of the 50 amateurs are supplemented by those of two professional tour cameramen who show the Beastie Boys and their sidemen, among other things, backstage . In addition, Manhattan can be seen from the perspective of an incoming helicopter in the title sequence of the film.

To their astonishment, the Beastie Boys got all the cameras given to the fans back after the concert; however, they had also asked for their driver's license as a deposit. Viewing the recordings on the cameras took about a year. In post-production , these images were optically modified with various effects, cut together and then underlaid with the separately recorded soundtrack of the concert. The cost of producing the film was approximately $ 1,000,000.

The original idea for Awesome; I Fuckin 'Shot That! Comes from MCA: “Someone had uploaded a grainy 30-second cell phone video of us on stage to our website. And I found that it captured the energy of the show very well. Most concert films, especially the modern ones on MTV and VH1 , never caught the energy that well. But this clip somehow did it. ”As Nathanial Hörnblowér, MCA was also the director and producer of Awesome; I Fuckin 'Shot That! - To do this, he resorted to the resources of the Oscilloscope Laboratories film company he founded .
