The Federal Police Headquarters ( BPOLP ) is a higher federal authority and federal police authority based in Potsdam . It is directly subordinate to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs (BMI) ( § 57 BPolG ). The Federal Police Headquarters is at the head of the Federal Police and is responsible for service and technical supervision and for the strategic orientation of the Federal Police. Dieter Romann has been President of the Federal Police Headquarters since August 1, 2012 , Jürgen Schubert has been Vice-Presidents since February 2012 and Ulrike Meuser since February 2016. Of the 4,300 employees at the Federal Police Headquarters, around 800 are employed at the Potsdam headquarters.

The Federal Police Headquarters is divided into eight departments , each with several departments . The president is assigned the management staff (LS) with the three areas LS 1 - management office, LS 2 - press and public relations and LS 3 - internal auditing / audit authority Fund for internal security as well as the trust center of the federal police. history
The Federal Police Headquarters was founded on March 1, 2008. A construction team had previously been set up for the establishment. Matthias Seeger became the first President of the new Presidium . On July 20, 2012, Seeger was put into temporary retirement.
The former Federal Police - Central Office for Information and Communication (BPOLZSIUK) has been integrated into department 5 of the Federal Police Headquarters in the form of three sections . Unit 54 is responsible for the product management of police ICT procedures. The former Unit 55 Operations and Investigation Support has been part of the newly created Federal Police Directorate 11 since August 1, 2017.

The office of the President of the Federal Police Headquarters is grouped in salary group B 9 of the federal salary order B , the offices of the vice-presidents in salary group B 6 and those of the department heads in B 3. The president is a political official and can be put into temporary retirement at any time ( Section 54 (1) No. 8 BBG ).
