Bażany ( German Basan , also Baasan , 1936-1945 Wacholdertal ) is a place in Poland in the Opole Voivodeship .

Bażany is located about nine kilometers southwest of the municipality seat Kluczbork and about 42 kilometers northeast of the voivodeship capital Opole.

To the south of the village are extensive pine forests and the Rezerwat przyrody Bażany nature reserve . The Borkówka brook flows through the village .

Neighboring places of Bażany are in the northwest Borkowice (German Borkowitz ), in the northeast Kuniów ( Kuhnau ) and in the southeast Jaschine (Polish Jasienie ).

history

In 1845 the village consisted of a Catholic school, a farm with a sheep farm and another 41 houses. In the same year 394 people lived in Basan, 34 of them Protestants. From 1874 Basan belongs to the district of Borkowitz.

In 1903 a new school building was built in the village. In 1925, 735 people lived in Basan, and in 1933 there were 696 people. The village of Wacholdertal was renamed on July 29, 1936 . On April 1, 1939, Wacholdertal was incorporated into the rural community of Borkenwalde . In the same year the foundation stone for the construction of the Christ the King Church was laid. The structure was completed in 1942. Until 1945 the village belonged to the district of Rosenberg OS

As a result of the Second World War, Wacholdertal fell under Polish administration in 1945, like most of Silesia . The place was subsequently renamed Bażany and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 it was incorporated into the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the newly founded Powiat Kluczborski ( Kreuzburg district ).
