Smardy Górne ( German Ober Schmardt ) is a place of Gmina Kluczbork in the Opole Voivodeship in Poland .

geography

Smardy Górne is located in the northwestern part of Upper Silesia in the Kreuzburger Land. Smardy Górne is about six kilometers northwest of the municipality of Kluczbork and about 53 kilometers northeast of the voivodeship capital Opole .

Smardy Górne is located on the Baryczka (Bartsch Bach).

Neighboring places of Smardy Górne are Krzywizna ( Schönwald ) in the north, Gotartów ( Gottersdorf ) in the east, the municipality seat Kluczbork ( Kreuzburg OS ) in the southeast, Stare Czaple in the southwest and Smardy Dolne ( Nieder Schmardt ) in the south .

history

Exaltation of the Cross Church

In 1261 the village is first mentioned as Schmarden .

In 1874 the Schmardt district is founded, to which Ober Schmardt belongs. In 1891 the Protestant scrap wood church in Ober Schmardt burned down. A neo-Gothic church was rebuilt by 1893.

In 1902 a public library was opened in the village, the first in the district. In 1925 electric lights were installed in the village.

In 1933 612 people lived in Ober Schmardt, and in 1939 again 632 people. Until 1945 the village belonged to the Kreuzburg OS district

As a result of the Second World War, Ober Schmardt fell under Polish administration in 1945, like most of Silesia . Subsequently, the place was renamed Smardy Górne and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 it was incorporated into the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the newly founded Powiat Kluczborski ( Kreuzburg district ).

Attractions

  • Today's Roman Catholic Church of the Exaltation of the Cross was built in 1893 as a Protestant church in the neo-Gothic style.
