Smardy Dolne ( German Nieder Schmardt ) is a place of Gmina Kluczbork in the Opole Voivodeship in Poland .
geography
Smardy Dolne is located in the northwestern part of Upper Silesia in the Kreuzburger Land. Smardy Dolne is about eight kilometers northwest of the municipality seat Kluczbork and about 53 kilometers northeast of the voivodeship capital Opole .
The Kluczbork – Wrocław railway with the Smardy stop runs south of the village . Smardy Dolne is located on the Baryczka (Bartsch Bach).
Neighboring towns of Smardy Dolne are Smardy Górne ( Ober Schmardt ) in the north, Ligota Dolna ( Nieder Ellguth ) in the south-east and Stare Czaple ( Alt Tschapel ) in the south-west .
history
In 1261 the village is first mentioned as Schmarden . In the 15th century the village belonged to Jan Hof von Kantersdorf.
In 1709 Schmardt becomes an independent Protestant community. In 1713 the parish was merged with the one in Rosen. The Schmardt district was founded in 1874 and Nieder Schmardt also belonged to it.
The castle was built in the 19th century. In 1902 a public library was opened in the village, the first in the district. In 1925 electric lights were installed in the village.
In 1933 716 people lived in Nieder Schmardt, and in 1939 651 people. Until 1945 the village belonged to the Kreuzburg OS district
As a result of the Second World War, Nieder Schmardt fell under Polish administration in 1945, like most of Silesia . The place was subsequently renamed Smardy Dolne and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 it was incorporated into the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the newly founded Powiat Kluczborski ( Kreuzburg district ).
Attractions
- The neoclassical castle was built in the middle of the 19th century. The two-story building was probably based on a design by Carl Gotthard Langhans . Today the castle is in ruins. The castle has been a listed building since 1977.
- The five-hectare castle park has old trees and has been a listed building since 1983.
