Bad Guy is a song by Billie Eilish . The song is their most successful single release with over five million units sold. It was released by Darkroom and Interscope Records as the fifth single from Eilish's debut studio album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? released. The song was named "Record of the Year" and "Song of the Year" at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards . Eilish and her brother Finneas O'Connell co-wrote Bad Guy , with the latter also responsible for production. The song was featured in press reports as a pop trap, Nu-goth-pop and dance-pop. It is minimally orchestrated with a synth bass, a kick drum , finger snaps and an 808 bass. In the lyrics, Eilish mocks her lover for being a bad boy.

A remix of Bad Guy with Canadian singer Justin Bieber was released on July 11, 2019 . The version, and especially Bieber's vocals, received mixed reviews.

When it was released, Bad Guy received widespread recognition. It has also been compared to music by White Stripes , Lorde, and Fiona Apple . Bad Guy was a commercial success, reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and also topping the list in Australia, Canada, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, New Zealand, Norway and Russia. In the United States ended Bad Guy the 19-week chart record of Old Town Road by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus . Bad Guy reached second place in the British singles charts . It has won multiple awards, including a six-time platinum certification from Music Canada and the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). Bad Guy sold over 19.5 million copies worldwide and was the best-selling single of 2019.

The song was covered in 2020 by the American ska punk band The Interrupters as part of the soundtrack of the series The Umbrella Academy .

Music video

Dave Meyers directed the music video for Bad Guy , which was uploaded to Eilish's YouTube channel at the same time as the single was released digitally . The video shows, among other things, how Eilish dances next to a man in front of a yellow, destroyed background, she sings bleeding from her nose in a blue furnished room, she drives in a child's car and sits on the back of a man doing push-ups. It has been accessed over 930 million times (as of July 2020).
