The Bahn-BKK (officially: BAHN-BKK) is a German company health insurance fund based in Frankfurt am Main . It is open nationwide and part of the statutory health insurance .
history
In 1837, during the construction of the second German railway line between Leipzig and Dresden, the first aid funds were set up to support workers in cases of illness for workers and employees employed by the railway . Their development ran almost parallel to the development of the German railway system. The Bundesbahn-Betriebskrankenkasse ( BBKK ) of the West German Federal Railroad, established in 1950, and the Reichsbahn-Betriebskrankenkasse ( RBKK ) of the East German State Railroad , established again in 1991, have developed from these health insurance funds . These have formed the Bahn-BKK since 1996.
On December 1, 1998, it was also opened to non- Deutsche Bahn employees. The basis for this is the right to a free choice of health insurance provider introduced in 1996.
