The Gaimersheim station is an operating point of the Ingolstadt – Treuchtlingen railway line in the municipality of the Upper Bavarian market Gaimersheim ( Eichstätt district ).

location

The station is on the Ingolstadt – Treuchtlingen railway line between the Eitensheim and Ingolstadt Audi stops . It is located one kilometer south of the center of Gaimersheim and west of the Kraiberg on the southern edge of the main town.

To the north, the station is bounded by Bahnhofstrasse, to the east, Ingolstädter Strasse crosses the tracks in a fully barred level crossing about 300 meters from the reception building , and to the west, Ziegeleistrasse crosses under the station at a similar distance.

Structure and infrastructure

The station is fully electrified and consists of three main tracks , of which the continuous main tracks 2 and 3 as well as the non-continuous main track 4. All three tracks have an intermediate platform accessible from the north , although track 4 is not accessible to passenger traffic. A wheelchair-accessible ramp leads over the gravel of the former platform 1 to platform 2, and a non-barrier-free crossing that crosses the platform accesses platform 3. Both platforms have a platform height of 24 centimeters and a platform length of 167 meters, the platform to platform 4 is shorter. The regional trains in the direction of Treuchtlingen stop at track 2, and the regional trains in the direction of Ingolstadt stop at track 3.

The station no longer has counters , but has a waiting hall . There are 170 bicycle spaces and 50 parking spaces.

history

The station was built in 1869/70 on the then single-track Munich - Ingolstadt - Treuchtlingen - Nuremberg line and went into operation on April 12, 1870 with the opening of the Ingolstadt - Treuchtlingen section. After 1891 the line around the station was expanded to two tracks. Around 1960 the station was electrified along with the line.

future

According to a unanimous decision by the municipal council , all bus lines in Gaimersheim are to be connected to the train station in order to improve public transport .

A turning track is to be installed at the station by the end of 2024 Template: future / in 4 years. Trains from and to Ingolstadt can change the direction of travel there without excluding routes . This will enable Danube Valley Railway trains to turn in Gaimersheim instead of at Ingolstadt Nord and Ingolstadt Hbf from December 2024 . In the BEG's tender for the Regensburg / Donautal route network, 99 or 97 passenger train journeys per week are foreseen, which will end or start again in Gaimersheim. According to these specifications, the RB  17 line will run every hour from Monday to Friday with a few exceptions from Regensburg via Ingolstadt to the new Gaimersheim terminus and back after the turnaround there. These trains to and from Plattling are tied through at least every two hours . Individual additional trains reinforce this line with trains between Gaimersheim and Neustadt (Danube) , another train of the RB 15 runs from Ulm Hauptbahnhof to Gaimersheim.

Only regional trains stop in Gaimersheim. The station is the scheduled stop of 174 trains a week in the direction of Ingolstadt and 152 trains in the opposite direction. In total, there are between 37 and 52 connections every day.

A regional train of the DB Regio Bayern runs every hour between Nuremberg and Munich via Gaimersheim, which ends or starts in Treuchtlingen from Monday to Friday and on Sunday morning . Individual runs start in the morning in Ingolstadt or end there in the evening. During the rush hour on weekdays the hourly amplifier trains of the Bavarian Regiobahn from the stop of Ingolstadt via Eichstätt train station to Eichstätt city are added, some of which are connected to and from Augsburg. Since the timetable change in December 2019 for which in the morning is also a regional train - train pair which from Munich to Eichstaett Station holds and moves back while Munich in Gaimersheim.

Many freight trains pass through Gaimersheim station. Goods handling has not taken place since the freight depot was shut down.
