Bamberg rider. A Frankenkrimi is a television comedy produced by Bayerischer Rundfunk from 2012 . Directed by Michael Gutmann . The film is part of the BR's homeland crime series.

action

After the death of his mother, Chief Detective Peter Haller returned to Bamberg . Before he can really begin to organize the estate, he has to solve his first case in which a western rider died. Jana Prager, a psychology student at Bamberg University, was out and about with her horse alone. After the animal suddenly shied, she fell on a harrow lying on the side of the path and bled to death. The search for clues at the scene of the accident suggests a thin rope that was stretched between two trees. There are also hoof prints from a second horse, so that an intention to kill can be assumed. Haller looks around the riding stables and finds, next to the victim's horse, a second animal that was recently ridden. He secures soil samples from the horse's hooves and gives them for examination, from which it emerges that this animal must also have been near the scene of the accident.

Haller's colleague, Detective Inspector Birgit Sacher, who moved from Würzburg to Bamberg with Haller , finds a lead that leads to Professor Eberlein. The victim studied with him and he also owns the second horse that must have been at the scene of the accident. However, Eberlein claims to have last seen Jana Prager four days ago and also claims to have not been with his horse. If necessary, the groom Georg will ensure that the animal is moved. In order to find out more about the equestrian center, Birgit Sacher registers there as a riding student. On the very first day she witnessed a dispute between the farm owner Stefan Breu and the professor who was fetching his horse from the facility. After further research, it is clear that Breu had an affair with Jana Prager.

Haller finds out that the bookseller Eva, who made friends with him two days ago, is the actual owner of the riding stables. She had leased it to Tessi and Stefan Breu and also helped them financially out of friendship. Haller had noticed for some time that Eva was very possessive towards people, including the Breus. The student's intrusion into her “little realm” was a threat to her and she had particularly urged Tessi Breu to do something about it. Haller drives Eva to the ranch, where his colleague Sacher has just been able to secure evidence from the autistic son of Breus. He had taken the rope that was stretched between the trees to protect his mother. Tessi Breu, a down-to-earth and warm-hearted woman who sacrifices herself for her family and who has always protested not to be jealous, now makes a confession. Unfortunately, Haller cannot prove that Eva had previously coerced her in her own special way.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv said about this crime thriller: “Despite the inflation of small towns and villages - people like to put up with this local crime thriller. 'Bamberger Reiter' is a cinematic rough diamond. No glossy aesthetic obscures the view for the essentials, the story comes quietly, the investigators take their time - unlike in the big city, the perpetrator does not run (or ride) away from them here. "

At the FAZ , Sabine Weigand said: “This Frankish thriller, directed by Michael Gutmann, is not stupid and very entertaining - and full to the brim with beautiful pictures of the old cathedral city. Bamberg, there is no doubt, is as beautiful as Venice, and as a backdrop it is still completely unspoiled. The dialogues, a compliment to the script by Peter Probst, are always authentic. ”About the main actor, she says:“ There is a sheriff, here for a change not a tough guy with alpha male allure: Schmausers Haller is by no means a John Wayne blend, but a melancholy romantic. A sympathetic softie, thanks to his militant feminist mother. "
