BanG Dream! ( バンドリ Bandori ) is the name of a multimedia - franchises of the Japanese media group Bushiroad , the beginning of the year has started, 2015.

The franchise consists of several manga and light novel series, several anime series and a smartphone game .

history

The series started in January 2015 with the publication of the manga series BanG Dream !: Star Beat of the mangaka Aya Ishida in the monthly Bushiroad . A month later, Aimi Terakawa announced that it had become part of the franchise . Linked to this is the founding of the group Poppin'Party in which she is a singer and guitarist . In April, Seiyū colleagues met Rimi Nishimoto and Ayasa Itō , so that the trio gave their first concert for BanG Dream! played. Shortly before their second concert in June, the group got their name. In addition, Sae Ōtsuka became the fourth member. The group is completed by Ayaka Ōhashi , who joined the quartet during the fourth concert in October. On February 24, 2016, the first single Yes! BanG Dream! , which was followed by the first concert with the full line-up two months later.

In 2017 the franchise was expanded to include an anime series and the smartphone game BanG Dream! Girls band party! expanded. To produce the anime series, Bushiroad entered into a partnership with the animation studio OLM back in 2015 and opened the joint venture studio Issen. With the release of the smartphone game, more groups were announced: Afterglow, Pastel * Palettes, Roselia and Hello, Happy World !. Roselia made her first appearance on the Tokyo Game Show in 2016 and released her first single Black Shout in April of that year. In May 2018 the band celebrated great success with the release of their debut album Anfang , which sold 25,000 copies in the first week of sales and thus reached number two on the Japanese album charts .

The Third, a backing band that played the instruments for the groups whose members are not professional musicians, appeared as a separate group with Poppin'Party and Roselia in April 2018. The Third, the project name of the group was later RAISE A Suilen renamed and received in Risa Tsumugi growth as a DJ . With Morfonica , a seventh volume was presented in March 2020 to celebrate the release of the mobile game in 2017. Like Poppin'Party, Roselia and RAISE A SUILEN, Morfonica also perform live and produce their own music.

In January 2020 Poppin'Party released their single Initial / Yume wo Uchinuku Shunkan ni! , which contains both the opening and closing titles for the third season of the anime series. This rose to number one in the Japanese single charts with 27,000 units sold , making this the first number one position for a group from this franchise in the official charts. In May 2020, the fourth cover compilation album BanG Dream! Girls band party! Cover Collection Vol. 4 released, which also reached the top position in the Japanese charts.

The anime series has meanwhile received three seasons, an OVA , a movie and two offshoots . Four more anime projects were announced in 2020. Each of these is an anime film. These are BanG Dream! FILM LIVE 2nd Stage , Episode of Roselia , which receives two films, and Poppin'Dream . The films are scheduled for 2021 and 2022. With ARGONAVIS from BanG Dream! a new part of the franchise was also announced, which is focused on a male target group. A stage work that focuses on the group RAISE A SUILEN was performed from July 15th. The last performance will take place on July 19, 2020 at the Galaxy Theater in Tokyo .

The smartphone game was the second most successful rhythm game in 2018 in Japan by revenue behind The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage and ranked 15th overall among the most commercially successful games.
