Bengbu ( Chinese 蚌埠 市 , Pinyin Bèngbù Shì ) is the third largest city in the Chinese province of Anhui . As a district-free city , it has an area of 5945 km² and around 3.33 million inhabitants (2016). 793,866 people live in the actual urban settlement area of Bengbu (2010 census).

location
The city is located about 1000 km south of Beijing and 120 km north of the provincial capital Hefei . It is divided in two by the Huai River .

Bengbu is located on the railway line from Guangzhou to Beijing and from Shanghai to reach in about five hours. The nearest airport is in Nanjing, about 200 km away .

The inner city is characterized by the contrast between the old Chinese way of life and modern influences. As in most of the larger cities in the Middle Kingdom, there is a colorful mix of mobile and stationary cookshops, hawkers, karaoke bars, mini-shops and modern department stores.
