Bernard Moninot (born May 15, 1949 in Le Fay Département Saône-et-Loire , Burgundy ) is a French painter, draftsman and object artist .

life and work

Bernard Moninot studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris . Later he was a university professor there. Moninot lives northeast of Paris in Le Pré-Saint-Gervais and Chateau Chalon in the Jura .

Moninot exhibited at the 7th Paris Biennale at the age of 22 . At the beginning, Moninot's focus was on painting and drawing and his work was classified as New Figuration .

In the 1980s he produced assemblages from wood, glass, mirrors, carbon paper , pigments , ink , silicon dioxide , graphite , metal powder and fragile metal structures. He began to become more experimental and poetic and also used natural phenomena such as light, wind, shadow, sound and resonance for his works. Moninot works with objects that he has made himself. He often places the light sources in such a way that a large area of ​​shadow is cast that adds another component to the objects.

In 1981, Bernard Moninot traveled for the first time to meet Indian artists in their homeland. This was followed by a trip to the historic astronomical observatories Jantar Mantar in Delhi and Jaipur .
