Bert Smaak

Albertus Martin "Bert" Smaak (born February 12, 1960 in The Hague ) is a Dutch drummer .

biography

Smaak has been playing drums since he was ten. He moved to Cologne in 1983, where, as a sought-after studio and live musician, he regularly played concerts and tours with well-known national and international artists and bands in addition to numerous recordings and television appearances. These include the Engel brothers , Anne Haigis , Ina Deter , Miguel Ríos , Udo Schild, Pe Werner , Nashville Music Company , Phil Carmen , Lothar Krell , Edo Zanki , Charlie Mariano , Purple Schulz , Jon Lord and Mike Herting .

He toured the United States for several years with the Grammy nominated band Acoustic Alchemy from Great Britain and recorded several CDs with them. Her 2005 production “American English” was in the US top ten for a long time .

In 2002 he became a permanent member of the reformed Dutch rock band Focus and recorded the CD “Focus 8” with them. They tour Europe, North and South America, as well as Canada and Japan.

In August 2004 he joined ex- Deep Purple organist Jon Lord and his Gemini Orchestra , with whom he played on the DVD "Beyond the Notes" - recorded live in Cologne - followed by further concerts in Germany and Europe.

Smaak can be seen on stage in several plays, in addition to the Roncalli Show or television shows such as DSDS `s Big Band Staffel and plays on various productions of many other artists.
