description
The Belaja rises in Bashkortostan in the southern Urals , east of the Iremel massif. It initially flows in a south-westerly direction before turning north about 10 km northeast of Kumertau . Along its course it flows through u. a. the major cities of Salawat , Sterlitamak and Ufa , where it receives the water of the Ufa and Djoma . In its further course towards the northwest, it meanders very strongly before it flows into the Nizhnekamsk reservoir near the border of the autonomous republics of Bashkortostan and Tatarstan , which was created by the damming of the Kama.
