Neftekamsk ( Russian Нефтека́мск , Tatar and Bashkir Нефтекама ) is a city with 121,733 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in the Russian republic of Bashkortostan .
location
Neftekamsk is located on the western foothills of the Ural Mountains in the northwestern part of Bashkortostan, near the borders with the Udmurt Republic and the Perm region . The Kama River flows near the city . The distance to the republic capital Ufa is about 220 km, the nearest city is Agidel, 30 km away .
history
Neftekamsk is a relatively young city: it was founded in 1957 with the development of an oil field . This gave the place its name: Neftekamsk literally means "oil city on the Kama".
In 1963 Neftekamsk received city status. In the 1960s and 1970s, further industrial objects were built in the place that allowed the city to grow. At the end of the 1980s, the population of Neftekamsk exceeded the city mark of 100,000 for the first time.
Neftekamsk forms an urban district to which, in addition to the city itself, the Energetik settlement (until 2005 briefly urban type ) and the villages of Amsja, Chmeljowka, Krym-Sarajevo, Marino, Tashkinowo and Tschischma with a total of 11,884 inhabitants belong. The total number of inhabitants of the urban district is thus 131,399 (as of 2010).

economy
In Neftekamsk, the NefAZ truck and bus plant (main shareholder KAMAZ ) and a leather factory are among the largest employers. The extraction and processing of mineral oil, which is mainly operated by the regional Bashkir oil company Bashneft , also plays an important role in and around the city .
