Sibai ( Bashkir and Russian Сиба́й ) is one of the larger cities in the south of the Russian republic of Bashkortostan with 62,763 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) .
location
The city is located in the southern Ural Mountains , near the border of Bashkortostan and Chelyabinsk Oblast , and is about 460 km from the republic capital Ufa and 95 km from the city of Magnitogorsk . The closest city is Baimak, 25 km away .
history
Sibai was founded in 1938 and is therefore a relatively young city. Initially it was a workers' settlement that emerged from the village of Starosibayevo and belonged to a copper deposit that was developed nearby . In 1955 Sibai was granted city rights, which is why in 2005 the 50th anniversary of the city was celebrated.

Economy and Transport
An important plant in Sibai is the copper and sulfur combine, which processes the copper ore extracted in the vicinity of the city. There are also companies in the wood, light and food industries here.
Sibai is on a road from Ufa to Magnitogorsk and on a railway line that connects the city with Magnitogorsk.
The airport near Sibai is no longer in operation. Air traffic stopped a few years ago.
