Janaul ( Russian Янаул , Bashkir Яңауыл / Jañauyl ) is a city in the Republic of Bashkortostan ( Russia ) with 26,924 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located in the foothills of the Urals , about 230 km north of the republic capital Ufa at the mouth of the Janaulka in the Bui , a left tributary of the Kama .

Janaul is administratively directly subordinate to the Oblast and at the same time the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .

history

A settlement in the place of today's city has been known since the first half of the 18th century. The Janaul station settlement was established around 1914 with the construction of the Kazan - Yekaterinburg railway line , which in 1936 (according to other information in 1938) received the status of an urban-type settlement and in 1991 it was granted city status.
