Boštjan Cesar (born July 9, 1982 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian football player who has been under contract with Chievo Verona in Italy since 2010 .

Career

society

Boštjan Cesar began his career in youth at NK Olimpija Ljubljana until he moved to Dinamo Zagreb in the youth field . It was there that his professional career began in 2000. In 2001 he was loaned to NK Croatia Sesvete , but he could not prove himself there and returned to Zagreb . Four years later it was awarded to his former youth club NK Olimpija Ljubljana with just as little success. During his career at Dinamo Zagreb he won the 1st HNL in 2002/03 , the Croatian Cup in 2002 and 2004 and the Croatian Supercup in 2002 and 2003.

In 2005 he made his big breakthrough. He moved to France to Olympique Marseille for 2.5 million euros , where he signed a three-year contract. In August 2007 it was awarded with a purchase option to the English club West Bromwich Albion . He made his debut for West Bromwich on August 17 in the Football League Cup in a 1-0 win over AFC Bournemouth . However, he made his league debut on October 23 in a 2-1 win over Blackpool FC . He scored his first and last goal for West Bromwich on February 2, 2008 in a 2-1 win over Burnley FC . He won the 2007/08 Football League Championship with them . Despite good performances, the coach Tony Mowbray decided against a commitment from Cesar and so he returned to Marseille at the end of the season . After the loan period ended, Cesar was not happy at Marseille. Although he only played 24 games, he won the UEFA Intertoto Cup with his team in 2006 and was French runner-up in 2006/07.

In January 2009 he signed a contract with Grenoble Foot 38 for a transfer fee of 400,000 euros and scored his first goal in his second game in a 1-1 draw with Girondins Bordeaux . In July 2010 he made a free transfer to Italy for Serie A at Chievo Verona , where he has been a regular since then.

National team

Cesar played for the Slovenian U-21s , for whom he played 15 games and scored one goal. On February 12, 2003, he made his A international debut in a 5-1 defeat in a friendly against Switzerland .
