Robert "Bobby" Butler (born April 26, 1987 in Marlborough , Massachusetts ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League since July 2018 and plays there in the position of right winger .

Career

Bobby Butler began his career as a hockey player with the Boston Junior Bruins, for which he was active from 2002 to 2006. He then attended the University of New Hampshire for four years , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . Especially in his final year at university, when he was team captain, he was able to convince when he was voted both Hockey East's Player of the Year and the first Hockey East All-Star Team. He was also honored with the election to the first All-American team of the NCAA. He was then signed on March 29, 2010 as a free agent by the Ottawa Senators , for whom he made his debut in the National Hockey League at the end of the 2009/10 season . He remained pointless and punished in two games.

The 2010/11 season began Butler at Ottawa's farm team Binghamton Senators in the American Hockey League . He was able to convince right away that he was allowed to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic in 2011 , whose Most Valuable Player was chosen. From January until the end of the season he was part of the permanent staff of the Ottawa Senators in the NHL.

In July 2012, the Ottawa Senators Butlers terminated the contract prematurely a year before it expired and paid the striker's contract early. On August 9, 2012, he signed a two-way deal with the New Jersey Devils . On March 4, 2013, the Nashville Predators secured his services by selecting the striker from the waiver . In June 2013 he was transferred to the Florida Panthers in exchange for TJ Brennan , where he only played two games in the NHL in the 2013/14 season and spent the rest of the season with the farm team San Antonio Rampage in the AHL. In the following season Butler was only used in the AHL, so that he decided to move to Europe in summer 2015 and joined Modo Hockey from the Svenska Hockeyligan .

In the summer of 2016 he signed a contract with the KHL Medveščak Zagreb from the Continental Hockey League and had 37 KHL games for Zagreb by December 2016 before he was handed over to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod . After his contract expired, he returned to the United States in August 2017, where he signed a contract with the Milwaukee Admirals from the AHL. From there he moved within the league to the Hartford Wolf Pack in July 2018 .

International

At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki , Butler was part of the US national team and won the bronze medal with it. He then belonged to Team USA at the 2018 Winter Olympics , where he finished seventh with the team that competed without an NHL player.
