Bov [ bɔu̯ʔ ] (German construction ) is a parish in North Schleswig , Denmark . The community is located directly on the border with Germany . Until 1970 she belonged to Harde Lundtoft Herred in what was then Aabenraa-Sønderborg office . In 1970 the municipality with the parish Holbøl (dt. Holebüll ) was merged to Bov municipality in the newly established Sønderjyllands Amt . In the course of the local government reform on January 1, 2007 , the Bov municipality was integrated into the “new” Aabenraa municipality in the Syddanmark region .

Municipal area

The parish of Bov extends over 16 km in an east-west direction and is part of very different landscapes. In the west are sparsely populated stretches of geest with sandy soils and numerous moors. The east as far as the Flensburg Fjord , on the other hand, is characterized by the fertile soils of the east Schleswig hills and offers a charming landscape , especially in the Krusau valley and on the fjord. On January 1, 2020, a total of 7,951 people lived in the municipality.

Until 1920 the parish of Bau consisted of the following rural communities:

  • Bommerlund
  • Weibek (Danish Vejbæk)
  • Kragelund
  • Krusau (Danish Kruså)
  • Norderschmedeby (Danish Nørre Smedeby)
  • Construction (Danish Bov)
  • Kollund
  • Kupfermühle (Danish Kobbermølle)
  • Niehuus (Danish Nyhus)

history

Bov is a very old church village, the name of which is difficult to explain. According to legend, it is related to the name Beowulf. In the Danish variant, the letter "V" is pronounced as "U" as in the German variant. (In the past, the "U" was also represented in German texts with the letter "V", which also plays a role in the phrase " An" X "for a" U "demonstrating ).) The parish has belonged to Bov since early times zur Wiesharde with the central places Großenwiehe and Handewitt and came with this to the Office of Flensburg in the Middle Ages . When Flensburg received city rights in 1284 , a small part of the parish of Bov was deposited for the city field, which was otherwise on Handewitter Grund. Bov was on Ochsenweg , here the branch of the same ( the crooked path ) to Flensburg went off.

When the Holsteiners achieved lien over Schleswig in the 14th century , they built Niehuus Castle to protect Flensburg in the southern part of the parish, but it was destroyed again in the following century. During the time when Schleswig and Holstein were divided , Bov and the Flensburg office always stayed with the royal line. In the 17th century, King Christian IV founded the Krusau copper mill east of Bov , one of the earliest and most important industrial companies in the Danish monarchy. The famous Bommerlund was invented in the inn in the small village of Bommerlund in the north of the parish, but it was soon produced in Flensburg.

On April 9, 1848, the Battle of Bau took place , the first major battle of the Schleswig-Holstein uprising , in which the Danish government troops retained the upper hand over the rebellious Schleswig-Holsteiners. However, most of the defeated managed to escape to Rendsburg , where they were supported by new alliance troops. The battle took place largely in the area of the "Crooked Way" south of Bov and stretched as far as the Flensburg new town. In some cities (e.g. Kiel ) a construction road is named after this battle .

After Schleswig fell to Prussia in 1864, the parish of Bau was divided into nine parishes. When located in the municipality building inn Pattburg (Dan. Padborg ) became a railway junction between the main route Hamburg - Fredericia and a branch line from Flensburg to Sønderborg (dt. Sonderburg ), was making a larger settlement. Kollund on the north bank of the Flensburg Fjord became a popular resort.

When the German-Danish border was drawn in 1920, the parish of Bau was divided: the two southern communities Niehuus and Kupfermühle (with water life ) remained with Germany and in the Flensburg district and from then on belonged to the new parish of Flensburg St. Petri (today they belong to the Harrislee community ). The remaining municipalities were now on the Danish Kirchspielslandgemeinde Bov that by the neighboring parish Handewitt separated Frøslev (dt. Fröslee ) was extended and the Office Apenrade was laid. A part of the small scattered settlement Simondys, which today primarily belongs to Handewitt, was also added to the Bov Sogn. In addition to Padborg, Kruså (dt. Krusau ) in particular developed into an important border trading center to this day, while the smaller routes across the new border (including the legendary Krumme Weg) were soon closed and only reopened in 2001 with the Schengen Agreement .

In 1970 the parish of Bov was combined with the neighboring parish Holbøl to form Bov municipality . In 2007 the border commune became part of the Aabenraa commune .
