Davidson began his career in the 2007-08 season with the Olds Grizzlys in the Canadian Junior League Alberta Junior Hockey League , where he was on the ice for a total of two seasons. In the seasons 2009/10 and 2010/11 he played for the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League, before the defenders in May 2012 by the National Hockey League - Organization of the Edmonton Oilers , who previously as part of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft , the Had secured transfer rights to the Canadian was signed. Davidson began the following season with the Oklahoma City Barons farm team in the AHL, but had to take a long break due to a testicular cancer diagnosed in November 2011 . After successful chemotherapy , he first played a few games for the Stockton Thunder in the lower class ECHL in February 2012 before returning to the City Barons .

After Davidson spent his first full season in the AHL in the 2013/14 season, he came the following year for the first time to twelve missions for the Oilers in the top division of North America. In the summer of 2015, his contract in Edmonton was extended for another year. In the course of the season, the defender became a regular player and received another contract offer from the Oilers in summer 2016. This was true for two years. However, Edmonton separated from him prematurely at the end of February 2017 when he was given to the Canadiens de Montréal in exchange for David Desharnais .

Davidson ended the season with the Canadiens and played the following until the beginning of December 2017 before he found his way back to Edmonton to the Oilers via the waiver . These gave the defender to the New York Islanders in February 2018 and received a third-round vote in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft . In New York, Davidson ended the season without receiving a continuing contract in the summer of 2018. He subsequently joined the Chicago Blackhawks as a free agent in September 2018 . In the same way, he moved to the Calgary Flames in July 2019 . These in turn were handed over by the Canadian to the San Jose Sharks for the trade deadline in February 2020 without any further consideration .
