Brinkum is part of the Stuhr municipality ( Diepholz district , Lower Saxony ). With around 10,000 inhabitants, it is Stuhr's most populous district and has the strongest economic infrastructure.

geography

Brinkum is located south of Bremen and borders directly and seamlessly on the Bremen district of Kattenesch . The river Ochtum forms the border . In the north, Brinkum continues to border the Kladdinger Wiesen nature reserve . To the east of Bundesstraße 6 , Brinkum borders the Leester Marsch, which belongs to the municipality of Weyhe . The Weyher districts of Leeste and Erichshof join in the southeast and south . In the southwest, Brinkum borders on the Stuhrer district Seckenhausen , in the east on the nature reserve Brinkumer Kronsbruch and in the west on the village of Stuhrbaum, which belongs to the same municipality.

history

As Kirchdorf of 1063 was Brinscimibroch on the common highway that here the Ochtum passed on an already testified in 1297 bridge and led to Osnabrück and Minden and Hanover. The Leister , in other words the freight transport industry based in some villages south of Bremen , came not only from Leeste, but also from Brinkum. In 1811 the road was built by Napoleon (Bremen-Osnabrück). From November 1832 to 1837 Friedrich Wagenfeld (1810–1846) lived as a private tutor in Brinkum and published from here the Phoenician chronicle of the Sanchuniathon that he supposedly found . In 1912 the community had a market hall built.

On March 1, 1974, Brinkum was incorporated into the municipality of Stuhr. Brinkum also celebrated its 950th anniversary in 2013 with numerous events.

Culture and sights

Instead of the medieval church, first mentioned in 1384, the Church of the Holy Cross was built in 1842 by Friedrich August Ludwig Hellner as a classical hall building.

The place is connected to the Autobahn 1 with its own exit . In addition, Bremen Airport can be reached in a few minutes (<15). With the city bus 55 (hourly, rush hour every half hour) you can reach Bremen-Huchting with a connection to the tram (approx. 25 min.) With the regional buses you can reach Bremen-Zentrum several times an hour in 20-25 min., With change to tram 6 den Airport in approx. 30 minutes.

The federal road 6 ran through the town in a north-south direction , from which the federal road 51 to the French border branched off in the center and continued from the border as route national 61 to Phalsbourg . Both federal roads have now been relocated to bypass roads and the junction of the B 51 is now on the southern outskirts.

The district of Brinkum-Nord is now a supraregional important retail center ( Ikea , Teppich Kibek , Marktkauf , toom hardware store , numerous factory outlets , several fast food chains). In addition, rff Rohr Flange Fitting Handels GmbH, one of Stuhr's largest employers, has its headquarters in Brinkum-Nord. Well -known companies are represented in the village with the headquarters of the temporary employment agency Bindan / Teccon (around 3500 employees), the packaging specialist Kaminiski (over 100 employees), the headquarters of the tour operator Wolters Reisen (around 150 employees) and the vehicle manufacturer Eggers (more than 70 employees) .

education

Brinkum has a primary school as well as a cooperative comprehensive school with 1550 pupils and upper secondary school. Brinkum is also the location of the adult education center and music school.

Churches

The Evangelical Church of the Holy Cross in Brinkum can be seen from afar through its tower. It was rebuilt between 1948 and 1955 after being almost completely destroyed in World War II. There has also been a Catholic church in Brinkum since 1959, the Church of the Holy Spirit .

Brinkum has an annual sports exchange with Écommoy in France. The largest sports clubs are the FTSV "Jahn" Brinkum and Brinkumer SV , whose first men's team in the Bremen-Liga (football) plays.

The Shanty Chor Brinkum e. Founded in 1985 is known far beyond the municipality's borders . V. , which, for example, often appears as part of the Bremen Schaffermahlzeit and welcomes the arriving Schaffer and their international guests with a concert on the Bremer Grasmarkt at the east portal of the Old Bremen Town Hall .
