Bruce Nicholson

Bruce Nicholson (* 20th century ) is an American special effects artist . He won an Oscar for each of the films The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark . He received an Oscar nomination for the film Poltergeist .

Life

In the 1977 film Star Wars , Nicholson made his first professional appearance. He was the cameraman's assistant on the visual effects. Three films in this genre followed with Close Encounters of the Third Kind  (1977), Battle Star Galactica  (1978) and The Empire Strikes Back  (1980). For special achievements in the film The Empire Strikes Back , he received the Special Achievement Award at the 1981 Academy Awards .

In the  1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark , Nicholson was responsible for the best visual effects along with Richard Edlund , Kit West and Joe Johnston . The quartet received an Oscar for their work.  Richard Edlund, Michael Wood and Nicholson also scored points with the horror film Poltergeist (1982). They were again nominated for an Oscar in the “Best Visual Effects” category, but had to compete with Carlo Rambaldi , Dennis Muren and Kenneth Smith and the film ET - Give in to the alien . Films like Return of the Jedi  (1983), The Neverending Story  (1984) and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom  (1984) followed. The late 1980s was followed by the science fiction film The Miracle on 8th Street  (1987), the Oscar-nominated film Field of Dreams  (1989) and in 1990 Jerry Zucker's fantasy comedy Ghost - Message from Sam with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore . In 1995, Nicholson was involved in John Carpenter's remake of the horror film The Village of the Damned .  Nicholson was also part of the team for the science fiction films Matrix Reloaded  (2003) and Matrix Revolutions (2003). In the end-time film I Am Legend  (2007), Nicholson was a digital compositor. New Moon - Bis (s) zur Mittagsstunde  (2009) and Eclipse - Biss zum Abendrot  (2010) as well as Breaking Dawn - Bis (s) zum Ende der Nacht - Part 1  (2011) based on the books by Stephenie Meyer were other productions which Nicholson was employed as a digital compositor. Nicholson also took part in the 2013 films Iron Man 3 and Elysium .
