Bruno Berner (born November 21, 1977 in Zurich ) is a former Swiss football player and current coach .
Career as a player
societies
The defender Bruno Berner, a trained banker , started his professional footballer career in 1997 at the Grasshopper Club Zurich . In 2002 he went to Germany in the 2nd Bundesliga and played for SC Freiburg , with whom he became champion in 2003 and thus made it to the 1st Bundesliga . In 2005 he went back to Switzerland for FC Basel . At Basel he made 32 Super League appearances, two in the Swiss Cup and 12 in the 2005/06 UEFA Cup . On January 30, 2007 he moved to the Blackburn Rovers in the English Premier League , where he signed a contract until June 2008 (with an option for a further year). The extension option was not exercised for the 2008/09 season. He then moved to Leicester City.
National team
Berner also played 16 times for the Swiss national football team from 2001 to 2004 and took part in the 2004 European Championship in Portugal . He made his international debut on August 15, 2001 in a 2-1 away win against Austria in Vienna . He played his last international game on June 6, 2004 in a 1-0 home win against Liechtenstein in Zurich .
Career as a coach
From 2013 to 2015 he coached the youth team at FC Zurich . In November 2016 he took over as coach of FC Tuggen , but could not prevent relegation to the first division. For the 2017/18 season he moved to SC Kriens in the Promotion League . In the first 2017/18 season he was promoted to the Challenge League with SC Kriens .
