Burkhard Fritz

Burkhard Fritz (born 1970 in Hamburg ) is a German opera singer with a tenor voice .

life and work

In parallel to his vocal training with Ute Buge, Burkhard Fritz studied medicine at the University of Hamburg. He continued his vocal training with Alfredo Kraus , Carlo Bergonzi , Arturo Sergi and most recently with Irmgard Hartmann-Dressler . First engagements took him to the Stadttheater Bremerhaven and the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen.

From 2004 to 2010 he was a member of the ensemble at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, where he successfully established himself in the German, Italian and French fields. He has been working as a freelancer since 2010. In addition to Richard Wagner's classic hero roles, his operatic repertoire also includes Florestan, Max, Hüon, Bacchus and Kaiser, Don José and Benvenuto Cellini, Alvaro and Cavaradossi, but also more lyrical roles, such as the title roles in Mozart's Lucio Silla and Idomeneo . His role debut in the title role of Siegfried by Richard Wagner in the Lyric Opera of Chicago is announced for November 2018 .

Guest engagements have taken him to the Vienna State Opera , the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Bayreuth and Salzburg Festival , the Teatro Real in Madrid, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Frankfurt Opera , Hamburg, Copenhagen and Antwerp as well to the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He sang the title role in the Chinese premiere of Parsifal and made guest appearances as Florestan and Parsifal in Japan. A staged performance of Schönberg's Gurre-Lieder at the Amsterdam Opera attracted a lot of attention .

So far he has worked with the following conductors: Daniel Barenboim , Gustavo Dudamel , Valery Gergiev , Mariss Jansons , Paavo Järvi , Philippe Jordan , Dmitri Jurowski , Zubin Mehta , Kent Nagano , Andris Nelsons , Ulf Schirmer , Christian Thielemann , Sebastian Weigle and Simone Young .

His concert repertoire is extensive and ranges from Beethoven Neunter and his Missa solemnis to the book with seven seals by Franz Schmidt and the Gurre songs by Arnold Schönberg . He took on the tenor roles in the funeral masses of Hector Berlioz ( Grande Messe des Morts ) and Giuseppe Verdi ( Messa da Requiem ), in the Petite Messe solennelle by Rossini and in the Glagolitic mass by Janáček. He also sang Liszt's Faust Symphony , Mahler's Lied von der Erde and his Eighth , Mendelssohn-Bartholdy First Walpurgis Night , Schumann's ballad Der Königssohn and his oratorio Das Paradies und die Peri . He also took over the title role in concert in Berlioz ' La damnation de Faust .
