Calasiao

Calasiao is a municipality in the Philippine province of Pangasinan .

history

Poblacion

In 1592 the small settlement of Calasiao was united with the neighboring settlements (e.g. Nalsian, Gabon, Dinalaoan) to form the municipality of Calasiao.

Augustinians and Dominicans evangelized the natives, who then mostly converted to the Roman Catholic faith. The monastery of San Pablo de Calasiao was built in Calasiao as early as 1596 and is still located in the city center today.

Today the population in the municipality is growing rapidly, which may soon lead to the city being renamed.

Culture and language

The vast majority of the population speaks both the Pangasinan and Tagalog languages . Ilokano and sometimes English are also spoken.
