Carlisle is a city (with a status of " City ") in Polk and Warren Counties in the US state of Iowa . In 2010 Carlisle had 3876 residents, the number of which increased to 3951 by 2013.

Carlisle is located in southern central Iowa, in the southeastern suburb of Des Moines. The city lies on the right bank of the Des Moines River , a right tributary of the Mississippi .
