Carosino is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 6780 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Taranto in Apulia . The municipality is located about 14 kilometers east of Taranto in Salento . Carosino is part of the Unione dei Comuni di Montedoro .
history
The first documentary mention dates to the year 1348. However, a find of silver coins from the time of the Greek conquest in southern Italy suggests an earlier settlement. The Ducal Palace (Palazzo Ducale) from the beginning of the 15th century is well worth seeing.
In 1540 200 Albanians founded the colony Civitella , of which only the “Masseria Civitella” remains today.
Economy and Transport
Primitivo grapes and olives are grown in the area. The former Strada Statale 603 di San Giorgio Jonico (now: Provincial Road) leads through the municipality towards Francavilla Fontana .
Remarks
- ↑ several rural buildings for agricultural operations; typical in southern Italy
