Crispiano (in the local dialect Crispién ) is a southern Italian community ( comune ) in Apulia .
geography
The community has 13,403 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the province of Taranto . The community is located about 14 kilometers north of Taranto in the midst of several elevations (up to almost 400 m above sea level). Crispiano is part of the Murgia , but only on the edge of the Salento .
history
The original settlement may go back to the Spartan colony of Taranto. Until the 18th century the place was of little importance.
Economy and Transport
The area is used for growing olives. The place is therefore also called città delle 100 masserie (city of 100 country houses).
The Crispiano train station is on the Bari – Martina Franca – Taranto line .

Crispiano has a partnership with Nea Chalkidona , part of the Filadelfia-Chalkidona municipality in the Athens-Center regional district .
