Church Saint-Côme and Saint-Damien in Paunac

The place Paunac is mentioned several times in the 10th century in the copial book of the abbey in Beaulieu . A donation in 887 went to a church that was founded in honor of St. Peter in Paunac. In the 12th century, the church still appeared among the estates donated to the Abbey of Beaulieu by Vice Count Ebolus. The parish was part of the archpriesthood of Gignac . In 1848 the church was rebuilt in neo-Gothic style. The building consists of a nave , which is preceded by a narrower yoke with a high square bell tower . The choir , which is closed off by a straight wall, is the same width as the nave. The yokes are provided with a ribbed vault , which are separated from each other by wide double arches. The extremely factual character of the exterior is canceled out by the colorful richness of the painting that adorns the walls inside.

Parish Church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité in Lasvaux

The parish was mentioned as early as the 12th century in the copy book of the monastery of Tulle, the pastor of Lasvaux is mentioned in a document from 1170 in the copy book of the monastery Obazine . A capital of a pillar that is reused as the foot of a holy water font and whose original function is unknown, can be dated to the first half of the 12th century. It is sculptured and shows scenes from the childhood of Jesus , the Annunciation of the Lord , the birth and flight into Egypt as well as the personified greed , depicted with a purse around his neck.

The church, on the other hand, is no older than the second half of the 12th century. The inscription "LE 20 IVN 1623", which is engraved on the cornice of the pentagonal apse , indicates a number of works in the 17th century. The elevation of the bell gable falls during this period, especially since a bell dates from 1620. The southern side chapel was added in 1872 and the nave, which is four bays long, was given a ceiling. The bell gable was raised again in the 19th century.

A triple-arched entrance portal is framed by an archivolt , which is decorated with four-petalled flowers. It opens in a porch, the cornice of which rests on a series of consoles , acrobats and particularly expressive grimaces. The creativity of the Romanesque sculptor is also evident in the consoles in the apse and nave . Inside, the walls of the choir are covered with a thick layer of plaster that covers the Romanesque elements. Most of the capitals and bases of the columns are also made of plaster. In the nave, traces of a liter funéraire can be seen.

The church has been classified as a Monument historique since March 2, 1965 .

Castle ruins

The castle was probably built at the end of the 12th century. One of the fortifications was originally the seat of a vicariate before it became part of the Vice-County of Brassac, which was sold to the Vice-County of Turenne in the 12th century . The noble Cazillac family had been known since the early 13th century. After the castle was taken by English troops, led by Ramont del Sort in 1390, the Vice-Count of Turenne ordered its demolition. However, the Baron de Cazillac did not carry out this instruction. However, the fortress was finally abandoned.

The foundation of the keep , which was built on the rock, is still on the hill today. It is made of ashlar but had no buttresses . The esplanade to the northeast corresponds to the former inner courtyard of the castle.

Manor Paunac

The house, which was built in the 15th century, preserved a medieval part with a round tower that protrudes from the western facade and is provided with a simple loopholes . The manor belonged to the Baronate of Cazillac, whose owners were the Antissac family in the 15th century. In 1638 the estate passed into the hands of the Estresse family, who kept it until the French Revolution . The mansion is privately owned and not open to the public.

Sauvat Manor

Based on the foundations of his cellar, the construction can be dated to the 15th century. Its layout is typical of the Quercy estates from this period. It is a rectangular residential wing, the main facade of which is a stair tower with the only entrance. On an unknown date, the mansion underwent a change when its tower was shortened to the level of the residential wing. Probably in the 18th century, the tower and house were re-covered with a slate roof in the form of a mansard roof. The entrance to the tower has retained some remains of its original decoration, the keel arch must have been restored at some point. Around 1650 the Lendou family owned the fief , then from 1664 to 1711 the Arligue family. From 1763 to 1779 it was owned by a notary, Maitre Charazac. This mansion is also privately owned and not open to the public.
