The 2001-02 season was the tenth regular season of the Central Hockey League . The 16 teams completed 64 games each in the regular season . The Central Hockey League was played in four divisions . The team with the highest points in the regular season were the Odessa Jackalopes , while the Memphis RiverKings won the Ray Miron President's Cup for the first time in the play-offs . Before the start of the season, the CHL was increased by five teams, this was mainly due to the dissolution of the Western Professional Hockey League , from which ten teams switched to the CHL.
Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Columbus Cottonmouths moved to the East Coast Hockey League .
- The Fayetteville Force stopped gaming.
- The Huntsville Tornado stopped gaming.
- The Macon Whoopee switched to the ECHL.
- The Topeka Scarecrows stopped the game.
- The Amarillo Rattlers from the WPHL were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Austin Ice Bats from the WPHL were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs from the WPHL were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Corpus Christi Icerays from the WPHL were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The El Paso Buzzards from the WPHL were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Fort Worth Brahmas from the WPHL were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Lubbock Cotton Kings from the WPHL were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The New Mexico Scorpions from the WPHL were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Odessa Jackalopes from the WPHL were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The San Angelo Outlaws from the WPHL were added to the league as an expansion team.
