history

View of the village around 1980

The place was first mentioned as Falkenaw in 1370 . In the Middle Ages there was a castle in the village, which was built in the 14th century.

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Falkenau and most of Silesia fell to Prussia .

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community Falkenau belonged to the district of Grottkau in the administrative district of Opole from 1816 . In 1845 there was a manor in the village with a castle, two outbuildings, a Catholic parish church, a Catholic school, a brewery, a distillery, two mills, five taverns and 131 other houses. In the same year, 691 people lived in Falkenau, six of them Protestants. In 1855, 843 people lived in Falkenau. In 1865 there was a Scholtisei , five farmers, 44 gardeners and 16 cottagers as well as three water mills and a windmill. The three-class Catholic school was attended by 285 students in the same year. In 1874 the administrative district of Falkenau was founded, which consisted of the rural communities Falkenau and Kroschen and the manor districts of Falkenau and Kroschen. In 1885 Falkenau had 774 inhabitants.

In 1933 there were 981 people in Falkenau and 1,052 in 1939. Until the end of the war in 1945, the place belonged to the district of Grottkau .

Falkenau was captured by Soviet soldiers on February 5, 1945. Before that, fierce fighting took place around Falkenau and the surrounding area. Numerous buildings, including the Catholic parish church and the castle, were destroyed. As a result of the Second World War in 1945, like most of Silesia , the place fell under Polish administration. It was subsequently renamed Sokołowsk and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. The German population was largely expelled . In 1948 the place name was changed to Chróścina . In 1950 it was incorporated into the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Nyski . In 2011, 1581 people lived in the village.
