Chris Mueller attended Nichols School in his youth and played for their ice hockey team in a regional high school league. As a player in the Milwaukee Admirals, he signed a contract in December 2010 with the Nashville Predators , the cooperation partner of the Admirals from the National Hockey League (NHL). As a result, the center came to 37 NHL missions in Nashville over the next two and a half years, but was still mainly used in Milwaukee and represented the Admirals at the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic .

In the summer of 2013, his expiring contract with the Predators was not extended, so the American joined the Dallas Stars as a free agent in July 2013 . Also as a free agent, Mueller joined the New York Rangers in July 2014 , where he was mainly used for the Hartford Wolf Pack , before moving to the Anaheim Ducks in the summer of 2015 and to the Arizona Coyotes in the summer of 2016 . At these two stations, he received no more NHL service time, but played exclusively for the San Diego Gulls and the Tucson Roadrunners . In the Roadrunners' jersey, he achieved his personal best in the AHL in the 2016/17 season with 67 points from 68 games.

In July 2017 Mueller signed a two-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs , with their farm team, the Toronto Marlies , he won his second Calder Cup at the end of the 2017/18 season. For the 2019/20 season, he joined the Tampa Bay Lightning as a free agent . They sent him back to the Anaheim Ducks in December 2019 in exchange for Patrick Sieloff .
