Christopher James Quinn (born September 27, 1983 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) is a retired American basketball player . He ran in the NBA as a point guard , including for the Miami Heat .

High school

Chris Quinn attended Dublin Coffman High School in Dublin , Ohio. There he set 14 school records and was Columbus Dispatch Player of the Year in 2002 . He was also elected twice to the All-State First Team and was second in the election for Mr. Basketball in Ohio - behind LeBron James . Quinn led the high school to two Conference wins and two districts in a row . He also played football during high school but decided to quit to pursue a professional basketball career.

college

Quinn attended the University of Notre Dame for three years. He was starting point guard in all years and captain of the team in the last two. In the three years he averaged 14.6 points, 3.5 assists , 2.7 rebounds and 1.27 steals . In the senior year he achieved 17.7 points, 6.4 assists, 1.55 steals and hit 42% of his throws. He was elected to the All-Big East First Team and was also the Big-East Academic All-Star.

NBA

Rookie year

Despite performing well in college, he was not selected in the 2006 NBA draft for which he signed up. He signed a partially guaranteed contract with the Miami Heat and played for the team in the Summer League . In his rookie season he completed 42 games and was on February 5 against the Charlotte Bobcats for the first time in the starting five , as Gary Payton was injured. He scored a solid 14 points in that game. On April 16, he distributed 9 assists against the Boston Celtics . In his first season in the NBA, Quinn showed good ball handling and a sure throw. He then moved to the permanent part of the heat squad.

2007-2008

After Gary Payton ended his career and his guard partners Dwyane Wade and Smush Parker were permanently injured, Quinn's playing time grew and at the same time the pressure on him. On December 13 , he set a new personal record against the Washington Wizards with 22 points. After the Heat secured themselves via Trade Marcus Banks , Quinn played less again.

Of course, the heat went badly for Quinn in the 15-win season too. He was publicly criticized by ex-team-mate Shaquille O'Neal : "[In Phoenix] we have professionals and no one asked me to play with Chris Quinn or Ricky Davis . I'm on a team again." This is what he said after his trade with the Phoenix Suns . He also complained about getting the ball too rarely. These statements were probably a special motivation for Chris Quinn - in April he averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists, which is about three times his previous performance.

2008-2009

With Mario Chalmers a new point guard joined the Miami Heat roster. Quinn plays as his backup and has shown solid performances. His points average and his playing time dropped again, but the team of the Heat was now much more successful and made it into the playoffs . On April 15, 2009 Chris Quinn scored a new career high against the Detroit Pistons with 26 points. He made 19 of the last 30 points in the heat.

2009-2010

After he could not complete a game for the Heat until January 2010 due to an injury, he moved to the New Jersey Nets on January 5, 2010 .

2010-2011

For the 2010/2011 season Quinn moved to the San Antonio Spurs . There he hardly got any playing time and mostly only came onto the field as the 3rd point guard. He left the club after a season.

Quinn at the Spurs (2010)

Since 2011

In July 2011 it was announced that Quinn would be moving to Europe. He signed a contract with the Moscow suburb BK Chimki, the winner of the Eastern European VTB United League 2010/11 and Russian runner-up, for over a year. With Chimki Quinn won the ULEB Eurocup 2012. For the 2012/2013 season Quinn returned to the USA and initially joined the Tulsa 66ers from the NBA Development League in order to recommend himself for a new contract in the NBA. March 2013 Quinn received a contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers until the end of the season and thus returned to the NBA.
