Christoph August Gustav Wilhelm von Sack (born December 13, 1773 in Vietnitz, Königsberg district in the Neumark , † December 17, 1844 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Christoph August von Sack's parents were Georg Friedrich von Sack (* 1724; † around 1783) - gentleman in Vietnitz that he had to sell in 1783 because of his debts - and his wife Dorothea Elisabeth, née von Katte , only daughter of Lieutenant General von Katte. His brother Georg August Friedrich (* 1770) was a Prussian district administrator .

Military career

Sack visited from 15 September 1785 cadet school in Berlin and then as a pupil at the local Militaire Academie . On June 25, 1791 he was employed as a corporal in the infantry regiment "von Hanenfeldt" of the Prussian army . There Sack was promoted to secondary lieutenant by the end of June 1796 and was promoted to adjutant general to the head of the regiment , major general von Ploetz , on October 5, 1805 . During the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the skirmishes near Liebstadt, Braunsberg, Gollau and Königsberg. During that time he was promoted to Premier Lieutenant on August 12, 1806 .

After the Peace of Tilsit , Sack was promoted to staff captain on July 26, 1807 . On January 25, 1808 he was transferred to the 1st Pomeranian Infantry Regiment (No. 2) , but on December 6, 1808, Sack was transferred to the Silesian Reserve Battalion with a patent from February 4, 1806. On February 17, 1809, he was transferred to the 1st Silesian Infantry Regiment (No. 10) . There he became a captain and company commander on February 19, 1810 . On August 8, 1810, he received his patent dated August 22, 1808. In the campaign of 1812 Sack fought in the battles near St. Annen, Wollgund and Kyopen. He received a commendation for his behavior at Neukrug. During the Wars of Liberation , Sack took part in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Dresden , Leipzig , Vauchamps , Paris , Ligny and Belle Alliance . In Dresden he earned the Iron Cross 2nd class, but was also wounded. For the capture of Namur , Sack received the Iron Cross First Class and the Order of St. Anna II Class. In the meantime he was promoted to major and battalion commander on March 11, 1813 .

On October 2, 1815, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and transferred to the 22nd Infantry Regiment . On September 19, 1818 he became a colonel and on July 21, 1822 Sack came to the 4th Landwehr Brigade as commander. In this capacity he was aggregated on August 6, 1822 to the 22nd Infantry Regiment. On January 18, 1825 he received the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class and in the same year also the service cross . On March 30, 1828 he was promoted to major general and on September 10, 1834 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle II. Class with Oak Leaves. On March 30, 1835 Sack came as director of the economics department at the Ministry of War and received on August 13, 1837 award of the character as Lt. Gen. his farewell to the statutory pension . He died on December 17, 1844 in Berlin and was buried on December 21, 1844 in the Invalidenfriedhof .

Sack married on March 7, 1816 in Bartin Friederike Wilhelmine Luise von Blumenthal (* March 4, 1773, † 1845) from the Quakenburg family. She was the widow of Colonel Wedig Casimir von Massow (born March 29, 1752, † April 29, 1807), most recently commander of the infantry regiment "von Ploetz" and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .
