Cody McLeod (born June 26, 1984 in Binscarth , Manitoba ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Iowa Wild from the American Hockey League since August 2019 and plays for them in the position of left winger .
Career
Cody McLeod, who was never drafted , started his career as a hockey player with the Portland Winter Hawks of the Western Hockey League , for which he played for a total of four years from 2001 to 2005. During this time he also made his professional debut when he played six games for Adirondack Frostbite of the United Hockey League towards the end of the 2004/05 season . The Canadian played in the following season for both the Lowell Lock Monsters from the American Hockey League (AHL) and the San Diego Gulls from the ECHL .
In July 2006, the winger received a contract with the Colorado Avalanche as a free agent . In his first year, however, he was only used in the AHL for their farm team at the time , the Albany River Rats . The 2007-08 season began McLeod with the Lake Erie Monsters , the Avalanche's new AHL farm team. The Canadian made his debut in the National Hockey League on December 19, 2007 in a game against the Anaheim Ducks . Eight days later, he scored his first goal in the NHL against the Detroit Red Wings .
After ten years in Colorado and over 650 NHL appearances for the Avalanche, McLeod was transferred to the Nashville Predators in January 2017 . The Predators sent Félix Girard to Colorado in return . With Nashville, McLeod reached the final of the Stanley Cup, but lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins . In January 2018, he should be sent to the AHL via the waiver , but the New York Rangers signed him . The attacker spent a little more than a year in New York and played 56 games for the Broadway Blueshirts during this period . In February 2019, the Predators brought him back to Nashville in exchange for a seven-round vote in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft . There he ended the 2018/19 season and then signed a limited AHL contract with the Iowa Wild .
